Kramer Levin announced today two promotions in its Litigation Department including the election of Washington, D.C-based Ralph C. Mayrell to the position of partner in the firm.

Kramer Levin announced today that Jilan J. Kamal, a former Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), has joined the firm as a partner in its nationally recognized Litigation Department and White Collar and Government Investigations Group. Ms. Kamal will litigate a range of white-collar matters, with a focus on complex cross-border investigations, criminal and regulatory defense, and civil litigation. She will be resident in the firm’s New York office.

Terry Novetsky has joined Kramer Levin’s Securitization and Structured Finance practice as a partner. Mr. Novetsky represents financial institutions, private equity funds and specialty lenders in asset securitization, secured lending and global trade finance transactions. He comes to Kramer Levin from King & Spalding, where he was a partner, and will be based in the firm’s New York office.

Today Kramer Levin announced it is launching a Congressional Investigations practice led by Barry H. Berke, who last year returned to the firm following his historic second impeachment assignment as chief impeachment counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives in connection with the U.S. Senate impeachment trial of the former president of the United States. He previously served as special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee in connection with the first investigation and impeachment of the former president.

Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Kramer Levin partner John P. “Sean” Coffey as general counsel of the Department of the Navy. Coffey, a retired Navy captain and former federal prosecutor, was nominated as general counsel by President Joe Biden in August 2021.
